About Us
Artlight is a youth-led movement that was established to promote the use of arts in creating awareness around issues of democracy, social and gender justice, good governance, peace and conflict resolution, youth empowerment, sexual and gender-based violence and poverty elevation therefore working towards achieving the SDGs and the National Development plans of The Gambia. One of Artlight’s main focus is telling stories of violence, abuse and annually launches movies center around youth empowerment, democracy, sexual abuse, child marriage and domestic violence with specific focus in telling nonfiction stories.
We have over the years worked with both government and civil society organizations such as National Council for Civic Education, CRS, National Youth Council, NEDI, University of The Gambia, Knights of the smiling coast and Actors Association, The Gambia on content, co-designing and implement activities that promotes the use of arts for awareness creation (Artvocacy).
We are determined to bring you fresh and untold stories from across the country with the ultimate goal of building strong and informed communities that are resilient and adequately responsive to social issues retarding growth and development by addressing challenges confronting the local communities and the possible ways of turning them into sustainable solutions and opportunities.
Artlight initiates and promote storytelling and discussions on burning national issues, developmental challenges and how youths can contribute to the national discourse and efforts required to build a stronger economy, an informed citizenry and a socially equitable society underpinned by productive youths, a creative populace and a highly gender mainstreamed workforce.
Meet Your Hosts
Satang, founder and Creative Coordinator of Artlight is an enthusiastic young person currently the Advocacy and Campaign Officer of Network Against Gender Based Violence (NGBV). Satang seeks to promote gender equality as she makes strides towards promoting a free and fair society for all. She has contributed in training over 1000 young people on Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) across all regions in The Gambia. Currently, she mentors 60 survivors of SGBV and continues to be a living example for women in leadership through her leadership, volunteer and community services.
